What is 'Segregated Witness' and what's its purpose? How do soft forks work and what do they make possible? What the %^&* is a sidechain? Innovation breeds innovations, says he -- the Grecian computer scientist who knows the disastrous consequences of currency monopolization all too well.

Amanda, you are awesome and so easy to fall in love with!!! The way you treated Andreas is not cool, though. If you got inspired by the Pixies, don't go out of your way to trash them and burn your guitar on stage, and compare them to Kiss. Respect and Peace!!!
Great interview Amanda! :) Andreas makes some great points, but I think most important of all, is the wealth extraction that has occurred in Greece and Cyprus and how it is spreading, which is why crypto is the answer to giving the people true financial independence. Keep up the great work, great questions you asked! PS, I love Aha Take on Me and reckon it is still one of the best songs of all time! Peace.
No.. its is not a good idea to "take the signatures out of the transaction" .. the transaction id should be the hash of the complete contents of the transaction, this is a fundamental design choice of Bitcoin. No transaction malleability should have been introduced when multisig was first implemented - the solution to that is to fix the first bug, not introduce another hack. With segwit we now have more than one transaction id for a transaction - which requires complex code gymnastics to handle - it breaks a fundamental design principle of Bitcoin. The solution to signature data taking up so much space, is to increase the blocksize to a reasonable level - more benefit for less complexity. Fortunately we have Bitcoin Cash so at least the market has a chance to vote for the Bitcoin they actually want - secure digital cash with low transaction fees.
LISK set to crush Bitcoin and Ethereum in 2018:
LISK uses Schnorr signature-based Ed25519 scheme which is more secure, much faster, more scalable than secp256k1 which is used by Bitcoin, Ethereum, Stratis
Amanda, i miss "The Daily Decrypt". You are wonderful host, interviewer, listener and i miss all these and more since your Dashing. i'd bet u miss it 2. If so, u could write a disclaimer about your employment, and let us enjoy your talents. no one is ever objective.
This video was made more than a year ago. How come seg witness has not been implemented yet? Will it be implemented in 2017?? Amanda when did you join the Dash team and are you less of a proponent of Bitcoin now?
great stuff. andreas is a great advocate for cryptocurrency and blockchain technology with a clear overview of the world economic system as it is and as it can be. amanda asked just the right questions to bring this out. it's great to hear about the massive amount of work and talent and brilliant invention being devoted this technology.
Well done Amanda, you are doing a great job in drawing out useful and relevant information. You are a very good communicator, knowledgeable as you are enthusiastic. Andreas is so easy to understand so a great guest too. Thanks
Quite a nice interview with a very positive outlook for Bitcoin. But this will only come to pass if the miners really agree to incorporate all these inovative extensions. The problem for Bitcoin is that this does not happen. This is the sad state and it might lead many investors and users to abandon Bitcoin for something better. Miners advertise their "Bitcoin is the digital gold" idea and think it might be a good idea to leave everthing as is and get the transaction fees up. This will never work. It will kill Bitcoin because the people which are invested in Bitcoin are invested for its innovations. If innovation stops they will leave and the price can easily go into free fall.
SegWit is not bitcoin, it changes almost all the definitions in bitcoin, please experiment it as an alt-coin. Just like windows VISTA, so many bells and whistles and no one think that is windows. BTW, it is proved that a soft fork will cause an uncontrollable hard fork, see July 04 fork
Really loved this interview, thank you Amanda!
if anyone wants to learn more about about financial crises Andreas mentions I would recommend the books 'The Global Minotaur' from the ex Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis and 'The Shock Doctrine' from Naomi Klein.
Great job getting Andreas on your show to explain SegWit. Its a discussion that needs to be simplified for the Bitcoin enthusiasts and no one is better at describing technical things than Andreas. Kudos!
You actually want the rich to get richer because they tend to be more productive with the money. Even removing money from the market by staking them actually increase the value of all the tokens in the network.
I'm glad you asked about tradeoffs. There are always those. And if you don't mention them, you sound like a greasy salesman.
It's easier to make changes. At first pass, that sounds great! But, _who_ is putting _what_ into the code? Immediately we bump into the issue. If we're cramming all these "innovative softforks" into the software, who makes sure that users want the features? How does this link with Blockstream's financial model?
Awesome! My favorite people in the vast interwebs duo on one amazing episode, the questions were on point and dispelled a lot of foggy details about SegWit! your channel keeps getting better and better! Great work Amanda!
Amanda, that was THE best interview I've ever seen of Andreas. You know how to slow it down, and ask pertinent questions. I mean, it was still very technical, and not for newbs so much, but it was extremely informative and understandable to me, which is something ;D Keep up the fantastic work!
This is very encouraging. I was starting to feel a bit uneasy about the rate of innovation in bitcoin core. Sure there are tons of things being built around bitcoin but it was starting to look like bitcoin itself was getting hidebound. I'm glad I was wrong about that. This makes me a bit less reluctant to buy into the selloff that's happening right now. Some whale seems to be dumping bitcoins a bit at a time. Think I'll wait till he stops before buying.
Anyway the bitcoin network capacity and transaction speed MUST be improved before bitcoin can really take off. I'm glad to hear that work is being done to make that happen. Thanks for posting this. I'll see if I can dig up a tip for you in addition to protip. This one was so awesome I'll kick in a 5(US) in BTC.
BTW I see you take Ethereum. What's your favorite Ether wallet? I'm a noob.
+The Daily Decrypt
Thanks. I'll investigate them all.
I plan to throw about 3 grand in over the next 2 months. That will leave me enough surplus to get some silver too.
I'm fond of using offline generated encrypted paper wallets and I've heard one of those web wallets can generate them, much like the Bitaddress website. If so, that's how I'll store most of the ether I accumulate.
I don't like keeping too much cashola in the bank. I'm a "starve the beast" kinda guy. Every penny you can pull out of their system weakens them and makes you stronger. But it's piling up so I've got to dump it somewhere that's safe from the bank bail-ins that are headed our way, probably within 3 years if I'm right about this.
Thanks again. Truly awesome interview. Andreas is a huge asset to our community.
+Vention1MGTOW In addition, I've heard there's a light wallet for Ethereum now on desktop? So that may be preferable to a web wallet, depending on how much you want to hold. I'd imagine the Ethereum subreddit might be the place to find the link for that desktop wallet.
+The Daily Decrypt Yes Roger Ver AKA "Bitcoin Jesus" angel investor would be fantastic. Make sure you ask him about DASH. I think Roger would be blown away by Dash Evolution and the recent Dash powered soda vending machine debut at Miami Bitcoin conference.
Thank you for your channel. I have been interested in Bitcoin for a couple years, and your channel helps me learn more. It really helps when I am trying to explain people who are only just hearing about Bitcoin, or only just now recognising it is still a thing and may continue to be a thing
Now THAT was an awesome interview and show Amanda!!
What an amazing guest! Even More amazing is that I understood basically what he was saying. Much of the credit goes to you however, by knowing What to ask the guy and not assuming that your audience knows everything. That's talent Missy!
I'd enjoy listening to your guest in the future, as soft forks come into play allowing more positive changes in Bitcoin's future.
Thanks again and Great Job!
+The Daily Decrypt Strikes me that you're even prettier when you are doing a pensive questioning. The care and focus you show is in itself attractive.
Great interview. I also subscribe to "Smarter Every Day" and this interview accomplished that too. Andreas is remarkably smart which often obscures the ability to explain but not so with him.
Amanda B- "....Do not try to bend fork - that's impossible ....only try the realize the truth....There is no fork. Then you will see that it is not the side chain that is malleable...It is only yourself...."
+The Daily Decrypt That is from a famous scene in the first MATRIX movie.  Only substitute "Spoon"  for "Fork" and Youtube search it...Only then will you see my brilliance in mixing metaphor in like 5 dimensions ( At least ).  Any how I truly enjoy your stuff.  I feel as if I have learned volumes in short order. You are truly sumpin'else.  Thanks so much ! Further it was only after I remembered there is a comedian that has a character called MR.Panos.youtube  Who has a Hysterical Greek "Financial Crisis"  You must see.  You will both laugh out loud a-gain-and-a-gain.   (+ you will add Greek neatly to your dialects....The Brit and Ruskie are DEEE-LISH !)   All the Best !  :>!
Amanda B. Johnson Well, you have good videos and even better conversations being started and carried on via your channel. I appreciate all of this. I was on the dark web in 2013 and lost the bitcoin I had because I didn't follow through. Now I am kicking myself after watching what it did from last fall on. I have gotten in via litecoin, ether, and a couple altcoins like Ripple(anticrypto) and Verge. I am reading and listening as much as I can absorb.

Start off with googling tutorials on how to build various things like "todo list app beginners tutorial (insert programming language you want to learn)". YouTube tutorials are great.
+The Daily Decrypt Chrome extensions can be pretty simple and still useful. For example, you can make a Chrome extension that highlights your name on every website with relatively little effort or understanding.
How to become bitcoin trader? Exactly like Bitcoin, multiple digital currencies exist in the marketplace. So if you prefer to buy a few other currencies which aren`t available on Indian Exchange than you can utilize Bittrex. All you have to do is locate an exchange that you favor. Cryptocurrency exchanges have a massive potential to modify peoples minds and opinions concerning cryptocurrencies generally speaking and their application in actual life. So even in the event the exchange is attacked, its still true that you have your money. Furthermore, the exchanges prepare each and every industry for Bitcoin expansion. Existing stock exchanges will also compete to be able to fulfill the users configuration requirements. Sooner or later later on, the prices will grow more equal, meeting somewhere in the middleyour profit is equivalent to the quantity of convergence. No matter how far it is from Kijun, it is likely to return and test that level at some point. The amount of bitcoin is perpetually changing. In the US, it is 1000 USD. Whats even better, seek the services of a seasoned lawyer or at least ask for an in depth consultation. So youve read the newspaper about the meteoric growth of crypto currencies including Bitcoin or Ripple. Then coming up with 1000s of exchange rates simply to go out and get groceries is nearly impossible. Many cities around the world provide a bitcoin ATM where you are able to trade cash for bitcoin. The cryptocurrency world isn`t efficient.
