Proof of Work VS Proof of Stake - Simplified Explanation

09:55
Hello Cadets! We're bringing you a video all about proof of work vs. proof of stake. We tried our best to simplify these concepts but they're really deep and complicated, so let us know how we did. We also tried our best to be as accurate as possible, but if we missed something, please let us know. Proof Of Stake NOTES: CORRECTION: Your stake percentage to win signing a block is actually dependent on how much you own in a stake pool, so you would obviously be competing against many other stake holders, not just four. Bitcoin Protocol Tutorial: Proof of Work

Bitcoin Protocol Paper Playlist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UieiMU-ImvI&list=PLQVvvaa0QuDcq2QME4pfeh0cE71mkb_qz&feature=share All Bitcoin Videos Playlist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UieiMU-ImvI&feature=share&list=PLQVvvaa0QuDebbCxrDPCux6SzC1RET4mF In this Bitcoin protocol tutorial video, the notion of Proof of Work is discussed. The idea of proof of work, normally, is to protect against spam and DoS attacks. With bitcoin, however, it is used to secure the blockchain, requiring that someone must re-do large amounts of computer processing to fake things in the blockchain. In the next video, you will be shown, via raw code, how Proof of Work actually works. This should help clear any confusion if you are confused at that point. http://seaofbtc.com http://sentdex.com http://hkinsley.com https://twitter.com/sentdex Bitcoin donations: 1GV7srgR4NJx4vrk7avCmmVQQrqmv87ty6

Proof-of-Stake (vs proof-of-work)

07:59
Cryptocurrencies use a ton of electricity because of mining. In recent years people started working on a different technique called Proof-of-Stake. Not only does it use less energy, it can also be more secure. (This video is a re-upload to fix a mistake I made in the previous one. Sorry about that!) 📚 Sources for this video: https://www.savjee.be/videos/simply-explained/proof-of-stake/ 🌍 Social Twitter: https://twitter.com/savjee Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/savjee ✏️ Check out my blog https://www.savjee.be

Bitcoin Q&A: The value of proof-of-work

14:30
Can a blockchain exist without miners, proof-of-work, or blocks? What are the implications for security, trustlessness, and decentralisation? Not all distributed ledgers are blockchains. What is the influence of alternative energy generation on mining in proof-of-work cryptocurrencies? Should we use alternative algorithms that generate "useful work" in addition to mining cryptocurrencies? The hard promises that Bitcoin provides are valuable and useful in themselves. What is the difference between proof-of-work and proof-of-stake? Note: These sessions were recorded live using Google Hangouts. The audio and video may be slightly out of sync at some points. These questions are from the MOOC sessions 7.2 and 8.2, covering the Byzantine Generals' Problem, which took place on February 26th 2017 and September 15th 2017 respectively. Proof of Stupidity | Revolutionary Consensus Algorithm

03:51
Proof of Stupidity NATURALLY occurs in NATURE so you don't even need to write any code for it to occur. It is by far the best way to reach decentralized consensus. In this video, we discuss three examples that illustrate Proof of Stupidity's superiority over other alternatives: 1. "Long Island Iced Tea Corp" rebranding themselves as "Long Blockchain Corp" 2. Hooter's starting a cryptocurrency rewards program 3. Kodak launching Kodakcoin Perhaps in the future we'll talk about more examples of proof of stupidity given how NATURALLY it occurs in NATURE. Why don't more people talk about this revolutionary consensus algorithm? Steemit Post: https://steemit.com/blockchain/@cryptovestor/proof-of-stupidity-or-revolutionary-consensus-algorithm ================ If you like my content, you can support me through using ANY of the affiliate links below (I receive small compensation). The beauty of affiliate links is that I can pick and choose what I like rather than have companies approach me - everything I linked below (with the exception of Trezor since I like Ledger), I use myself frequently. ================ My Recommended Hardware Wallets: If you want to store your cryptocurrencies safely, the best way is through a hardware wallet. Seriously - look it up and you'll find plenty of information supporting this claim. There are alternatives such as paper wallets, but these are convenient and my choice for cold storage (offline): Ledger Nano S: http://amzn.to/2hZPj0q Trezor: http://amzn.to/2AxD9TN Ledger Blue (expensive): http://amzn.to/2hk7xst I personally prefer the Ledger Nano S, but the Trezor is such a close second that it really doesn't matter which one you go with. Ledger Blue is premium and convenient, but not necessary. ================ My Favorite Book for Investing in Crypto: Cryptoassets: http://amzn.to/2zKDdCF This book is, bar none, my favorite book for investing in cryptocurrencies. It doesn't bog you down with technical jargon, but instead focuses on all the elements you should understand before you invest. It's a comprehensive book for both beginners and experts. Beginners will find information about major cryptocurrencies (not just Bitcoin) as well as details on historical market events (that you can draw on for future) and events to watch for moving into the future. Experts will find the chapters on valuation particularly useful. For those of you involved in traditional investing, this book is even more of a godsend as finance info is explored (correlations with other asset classes, ETFs, etc). ================ My Recommended Exchanges: Coinbase / GDAX / Bittrex https://www.coinbase.com/join/5a08b12e305a1401d79d10e0 If you sign up to Coinbase using link above, you and I will both receive $10 each after you buy your first $100 of Bitcoin using Coinbase. Coinbase is much less intimidating for beginners. Once ready, move up to GDAX for cheaper or zero fees. For altcoins, I recommend Bittrex. ================ Legal Stuff: I am a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for me to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. What is Proof of Work?

01:01
What is Proof of Work? Proof of work refers to the computational puzzle that miners have to solve which allows many open blockchain networks to remain secure and decentralized. Proof of Work uses cryptographic functions that essentially guarantee a certain number of computer cycles were spent to solve the puzzle. In other words, by solving this puzzle, you are proving that you did some amount of work - hence the term Proof of Work. How much work that takes is dictated by the difficulty, which scales the amount of work it takes to solve the puzzle. This puzzle can be thought of like a lottery. Every computer cycle that is used to try and find a solution is a lottery ticket, with the winning reward of issuing the next block and claiming a reward. Proof of Work is the foundation of many open blockchain networks aligning economic incentives in order to build a system that serves everyone equally.

Proof of Work vs. Proof of Stake and why I feel Proof of Stake is superior.

09:27
Although Bitcoin is Proof of Work, I believe Proof of Stake is a superior form of securing the cryptocurrency network. In this video I compare them, and discuss the differences. **To clarify on the governance within Proof of Stake - let me clarify that this become relevance in the case of disagreement within the community and when a hard fork is required -- with Proof of Stake users can vote with their share, rather than only letting miners vote with their hash power**

What is Proof of Work (POW) and Proof of Stake (POS) - Crypto Knowledge

05:28
http://www.ThinkingCrypto.com Both are algorithms used to establish a consensus on the blockchain. Ways of securing the blockchain, Defense from DoS attacks. Proof of Work One of the first ways of securing the blockchain. Primarily used but not specific to cryptocurrencies Accurate work and speed of Blockchain system depend on it. Mining Bitcoin is a proof of work currency. In order to get Bitcoin you need to mine it, solving block etc. Requires a lot of time energy and money Proof of Stake Proof of stake is an alternative process for transaction verification on a blockchain. Less about mining and more about validating Unlike the proof of work system, in which the user validates transactions and creates new blocks by performing a certain amount of computational work, a proof of stake system requires the user to show ownership of a certain number of cryptocurrency units. In the proof of stake system, blocks are said to be ‘forged’ or ‘minted’, not mined. Users who validate transactions and create new blocks in this system are referred to as forgers. In order to validate transactions and create blocks, a forger must first put their own coins at ‘stake’. Think of this as their holdings being held in an escrow account: if they validate a fraudulent transaction, they lose their holdings, as well as their rights to participate as a forger in the future. Once the forger puts their stake up, they can partake in the forging process, and because they have staked their own money, they are in theory now incentivized to validate the right transactions. Proof of Work vs Proof of Stake - [ Explained Simple ]

05:18
Proof of Work (PoW) was created almost two decades ago in late 1990s, by Markus Jakobsson and Ari Juels. The main goal of PoW is to deter denial-of-service attacks by requiring computational work to be done before block submission. This means that, in order to mine a Bitcoin block, you have to spend computational power witch cost electricity. Proof of Stake (PoS) is another consensus structure, like PoW, but instead of requiring work or computational power, it requires the miner to hold a large amount of the cryptocurrency ================================================= 💰Get a Coinbase Wallet! - https://www.coinbase.com/join/5a4bf25... "Proof Of Work vs Proof Of Stake" - Peter Todd

14:13
Peter Todd's thought on two competing concepts in cryptocurrency world: Proof Of Work vs Proof Of Stake. More detailed theoretical descriptions for both can be found below: A proof of work (PoW) is a piece of data which is difficult, costly and time-consuming to produce but easy for others to verify and which satisfies certain requirements. Producing a proof of work can be a random process with low probability so that a lot of trial and error is required on average before a valid proof of work is generated. Bitcoin uses the Hashcash proof of work system. In order for a block to be accepted by network participants, miners must complete a proof of work which covers all of the data in the block. The difficulty of this work is adjusted so as to limit the rate at which new blocks can be generated by the network to one every 10 minutes. Due to the very low probability of successful generation, this makes it unpredictable which of competing computers in the network will be able to generate the next block. For a block to be valid it must hash to a value less than the current target; this means that each block indicates that work has been done generating it. Each block contains the hash of the preceding block, thus each block has a chain of blocks that together contain a large amount of work. Changing a block (which can only be done by making a new block containing the same predecessor) requires regenerating all successors and redoing the work they contain. This protects the block chain from tampering. Proof of stake (PoS) is a type of algorithm by which a cryptocurrency blockchain network aims to achieve distributed consensus. Unlike Proof-of-Work (PoW) based cryptocurrencies , where the algorithm rewards participants who solve complicated cryptographical puzzles in order to validate transactions and create new blocks (i.e. mining), in PoS-based cryptocurrencies the creator of the next block is chosen in a deterministic (pseudo-random) way, and the chance that an account is chosen depends on its wealth (i.e. the stake). In PoS cryptocurrencies the blocks are usually said to be forged (in the blacksmith sense of this word), or minted, rather than mined. Also, usually all the coins are created in the beginning and the total number of coins never changes afterwards (although there are some other versions of PoS where new coins can be created). Therefore, in the basic version of PoS there are no block rewards; so, the forgers take only the transaction fees. Support the show, consider donating: 3PCV8LKfA9952FTF9Y4wGTUmYikEgHws34 (http://bit.ly/1AHdNNW) At just 20-years young, Vitalik Buterin is one of the most brilliant minds in the cryptocurrency space. Previously, a co-founder of Bitcoin Magazine, he has conceptualized Ethereum, the most radical and ambitious cryptocurrency project since Bitcoin. After raising $18m in a crowdsale, a team of over 30 are working on launching the project by March 2015. In his work on designing a system for the future, he has been grappling with many of the hardest problems in the cryptocurrency space over the past year. In a fascinating discussion, we covered: - How Ethereum has evolved since the white paper - The problems of Proof-of-Work - Why Proof-of-Stake is the future of consensus protocols - Why his main focus has been on consensus issues and scalability - Why Bitcoin will never be stable enough to price things in - The flawed ideology of ‘Bitcoin maximalism’ that prevents people from considering Proof-of-Work alternatives Links mentioned in this episode: - Ethereum: http://ethereum.org - How to get started: Your first DApp in under one hour: https://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/1402/how-to-get-started-your-first-dapp-under-one-hour - Ethereum Proof-of-Concept 7: https://github.com/ethereum/cpp-ethereum/wiki - Proof of Stake: How I Learned to Love Weak Subjectivity: https://blog.ethereum.org/2014/11/25/proof-stake-learned-love-weak-subjectivity/ - Slasher: A Punitive Proof-of-Stake Algorithm: https://blog.ethereum.org/2014/01/15/slasher-a-punitive-proof-of-stake-algorithm/ Sponsors: - Gems: http://getgems.org - Shapeshift: https://shapeshift.io - Fairlay: http://fairlay.com Show notes: http://epicenterbitcoin.com/podcast/058 SoundCloud: http://soundcloud.com/epicenterbitcoin/eb-058 Epicenter Bitcoin is hosted by Brian Fabian Crain & Sébastien Couture. - Visit our website: http://epicenterbitcoin.com - Subscribe to our newsletter: http://epicenterbitcoin.com/newsletter - Twitter: http://twitter.com/epicenterbtc

Proof Of Work vs. Proof Of Stake | PoW vs PoS | EXPLAINED

03:07
In fact, programming an attack to a PoW network is very expensive, and you would need more money than you can be able to steal. Instead, the underlying PoS algorithm must be as bulletproof as possible because, without especially penalties, a proof of stake-based network could be cheaper to attack. Bitcoin is a worldwide cryptocurrency and digital payment system called the first decentralized digital currency, as the system works without a central repository or single administrator. It was invented by an unknown person or group of people under the name Satoshi Nakamoto and released as open-source software in 2009. The system is peer-to-peer, and transactions take place between users directly, without an intermediary. These transactions are verified by network nodes and recorded in a public distributed ledger called a blockchain.
